Health Surtax estimates are based on the latest proposal (as of July 16, 2009) which would impose a surtax of 1 percent on married couples with adjusted gross incomes between $350,000 and $500,000 (singles between $280,000 and $400,000); 1.5 percent on couples with incomes between $500,000 and $1 million (singles earning between $400,000 and $800,000); and 5.4 percent on couples earning more than $1 million (singles beyond $800,000). The bottom bracket was reduced to $9000 based on House Ways and Means ranking member Dave Camp's comment that there was a provision, outlined in pages added to the bill on 07.16.09, which tax the lowest earners .

* Recreation Tax and Clothing Tax : Sales tax applied to recreation and clothing purchases. Food Tax: Sales tax applied when dining away from home. Other Tax: Includes per capita allowance for "taxes other" per 2009 Statistical Abstract plus hunting, fishing, driver's license tax and insurance premium tax. Total State Taxes: Does not include all taxes applied at the state level.
